My mum has bipolar disorder and i dont know how to deal with it?

Having bipolar myself, I can understand the situation. I use put my family thru hell, destroying property and cursing them without reason and then come back saying "hey its not my fault, Im bipolar!" I think its a common theme around bipolar people is not taking responsibility for our actions and saying its the diseases fault. Its only true to an extend. People with bipolar CAN live normal lives and CAN control their impulsive behaviors. I think by forgiving her so easily you confirm her belief that its not fault. You must instill that, yes she has bipolar, but bipolar isn't who she is. You gotta lay down the line and let her know that you won't put up with it, and that may mean cutting her off until she agrees to take her meds and take responsibility. Meds are essential for bipolar patients, because they work with the neurotransmitters necessary to think clearly. Yes, its normal for you to cut her off, it may be the best way to teach her. And yes she can be normal with a changed mind set and meds
