Why is the Vizio blu ray so quiet?

I have a Vizio blu ray player hooked up to my Vizio tv. The sound when I play a blu ray disc is horrible! The talking is VERY quiet, even with the TV turned up very high. The music is then blaring. I am using an HDMI cable to connect the two. Any suggestions on audio settings or adjustments I can make to fix this?
