How to subtly make a character crazy?

Maybe the character suddenly hears someone talking in her home and goes to investigate it. Switch from her episodes to normal life. (Just played Alice:Madness Returns.) Play definentely for some inspiration. It's a fun game and the main character spirals into madness.
